Sex and porn addiction

Are you struggling with some form of sex or porn addiction?

Are you finding that watching porn, using hook up apps, sexualised online activity or some other form of compulsive sexual activity is causing problems in your life?

Therapy can help you deal with this behaviour.

What is sex addiction?

It is sexual behaviour that feels out of control and is causing negative consequences in your life.

It includes:

  • Masturbation
  • Pornography
  • Webcams, apps and online chat
  • Paying for sex or ‘cruising’ for sex
  • Sleeping with strangers/having multiple affairs
  • Cyber sex

It is often not the activity itself that is the problem but how you use sex and how you have got into an addictive behaviour that you can’t seem to control. This behaviour, when it becomes addictive, can leave you feeling depressed, sad or even shameful. It can also have a damaging effect on your intimate relationship, if you are in one, and on your self-esteem.

The addictive behaviour often takes up a lot of time, money and effort. It can end up negatively affecting your work, health and relationships.

You will probably have tried many times to stop the behaviour but, even if you do manage to stop for a while, you find yourself being drawn back into it. That can leave you feeling powerless and shameful - it’s like you don’t control your own actions any more.

Psychotherapy can help you combat this behaviour. Therapy can help you become aware of the underlying issues that fuel the addiction. It can also help with practical strategies to enable you to stand the best chance of changing your behaviour and no longer feeling controlled by an addiction,
